A FRIEND. A BROTHER. A SAINT.
Brother Andre is known to be a Friend, a Brother and a Saint! He was a friend who did not categorize people. He welcomed everyone who came to him. He was a brother to all people! He did not keep away people from his sight. He accompanied everyone to God. Christians, non-Christians, believers and non-believers could meet with him. He listened to all people and prayed for them. Now, he is a saint for all people of our time. People of all walks can associate themselves with him. Young and old, healthy and sick, rich and poor… all people could meet with Brother Andre. A humble man just like anyone of us!
Saint Brother André is an important figure in today’s world. The Church presents him to the world as a man who has distinguished himself by the quality of his very fraternal welcome. All his life, he welcomed suffering of all kinds, he showed a lot of compassion to all the people who presented themselves to him. In a world in search of meaning, he reveals himself as a man of prayer who presents us with a God full of goodness who is attentive to the needs of his children. He liked to say to people who confided in him “how good God is, how he takes care of us!”» Brother André, a very simple man, a man of the people, was the friend of Saint Joseph, patron of the universal Church, and always presented him with Mary as an intercessor attentive to our requests. Brother André was a builder and a unifier. He went to the end of his dreams, particularly that of building a basilica in honor of the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus, in Montreal, a city dedicated, since its foundation, to the Virgin Mary. To complete his project, he joined forces with collaborators who supported him and who continue to do so today, and these people are from here and from all over the world. Saint John Paul II said a few years ago in substance this: The world today needs witnesses more than preachers. Brother André is this race of active witnesses: a man of welcome and compassion, a man of prayer, a builder, and a unifier.
